Blumenthal, Jones provide insight at Heartland Labor and Employment Law Institute Conference

Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris LLC (SBH) members Michael L. Blumenthal and Kimberly Jones both served as presenters Wednesday, May 22 in the Heartland Labor and Employment Law Institute Conference, held locally in Kansas City, Missouri.

Co-chair of this year’s event committee, Blumenthal served as co-presenter in the opening session — “Legal Update: Key Court Decisions and Regulatory Developments.” He helped address key federal, Missouri, and Kansas court decisions from the past year that affect employers and provided insight into lessons learned and best practices going forward. In addition, the session covered major cases currently pending in courts that are expected to be decided this year.

Jones participated in a presentation entitled “In the Line of Fire: A Demonstration of an HR Professional’s Cross Examination.” She conducted a mock cross-examination of a Human Resource professional and then discussed the pitfalls that can arise at trial.

With about 400 people in attendance, this was the largest Heartland Labor and Employment Law Institute Conference in the event’s history. It is considered the region’s premier alliance of human resources, academic, and legal advisers promoting workplace excellence. UMKC School of Law leads the institute in conjunction with the Society of Human Resources of Johnson County (SHRMJC) and the Society of Human Resources of Greater Kansas City (SHRMKC).
