Five members honored as Best Lawyers in 2022 with another attorney named to Ones to Watch list

Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris LLC (SBH) congratulates members Paul Seyferth, Michael Blumenthal, Kimberly Jones, Charlie Harris, Jr., and Bruce Moothart for being recognized in The Best Lawyers in America 2022, a highly regarded U.S. News & World Report-sponsored peer review guide honoring legal professionals. Notably, Jones earned the honor of 2022 Lawyer of the Year for Kansas City, Missouri, in Labor Law-Management.

In addition, member Matthew Westering earned repeat distinction on the publication’s “Ones to Watch” list, which recognizes up-and-coming attorneys for their work.

Recognition by Best Lawyers is based entirely on peer review. The organization’s methodology is “designed to capture, as accurately as possible, the consensus opinion of leading lawyers about the professional abilities of their colleagues within the same geographical area and legal practice area.”

A person receives recognition from Best Lawyers for his or her talent in the legal industry within specific practice areas.

Jones made the list for a 13th consecutive year and earned her second Lawyer of the Year award (2017, Employment Law – Management). Managing member at SBH since 2016, she is an employment trial lawyer representing companies, not-for-profit organizations, and higher education institutions in federal and state courts and before AAA and labor arbitration panels. She was recognized by Best Lawyers in the areas of Employment Law – Management, Labor Law – Management, and Litigation – Labor and Employment.

The founding member of SBH, Seyferth was honored for a 16th consecutive year. His more than 30 years in law practice includes experience in high-stakes and high-profile employment, healthcare, and business litigation. He was again recognized by Best Lawyers in the fields of Employment Law – Management, Labor Law – Management, Litigation – Labor and Employment, Commercial Litigation and Legal Malpractice Law – Defendants while earning a new distinction in Litigation – Insurance.

Blumenthal also appeared in Best Lawyers for a 16th straight year, in the fields of Employment Law – Management and Litigation – Labor and Employment. His legal career has been devoted to representing management in workplace legal issues and representing businesses in high-stakes business litigation.

In Best Lawyers for a seventh year in a row, Harris was honored in the areas of Employment Law – Management and Litigation – Labor and Employment. He has a national practice focusing on representation of corporations, nonprofit entities, corporate officers and directors, and municipalities against claims of disability, race, gender, sex and age discrimination, sexual harassment, and wage and hour and collective actions.

Moothart received recognition for the second time, making the list in Commercial Litigation. He focuses his practice on the representation of businesses and professionals in complex litigation with an emphasis on insurance-related issues.

Westering joined SBH in 2019 as an experienced litigator with a practice including the defense of businesses and insurance companies in state and federal courts. He has twice been recognized on Ones to Watch for his work in Insurance Law.
