Employment Litigation | Employment Counseling | Products Liability Defense
Melesa joined Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris in 2019 with extensive legal experience in both private practice and governmental roles. Her previous work includes a focus on civil defense litigation, and her practice at SBH will include employment law (litigation and counseling) and products liability defense.
Most recently, Melesa served as a law clerk for U.S. Magistrate Judge Willie J. Epps, Jr. in the Western District of Missouri. Her duties included drafting legal opinions, researching issues before the court, and daily docket management.
Melesa has also served as an Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor, where she tried numerous jury trials, earned the distinction of office Rookie of the Year, and oversaw the internship program.
After receiving her undergraduate degree from Columbia University in New York, Melesa earned her Juris Doctor from The University of Missouri School of Law in Columbia. She was an avidly engaged member of the student body, serving as an Associate Editor on the Missouri Law Review, Judging Director for the Board of Advocates, and Parliamentarian for the Black Law Students Association.
Melesa also interned with both the Missouri Attorney General’s Office and The Honorable George Draper, III of the Missouri Supreme Court.
Additionally, Melesa is very active in the community, serving on several boards including the Jackson County Community Backed Anti-Crime Tax (COMBAT) Commission (2016-present), Kansas City’s Municipal Liquor Control Review Board (2016-2018), and the EITAS Developmental Disability Services of Jackson County Board (2015-2016). She also reads to elementary school students on a weekly basis through the Lead to Read initiative and has been recognized for her efforts by the Missouri Bar Association with the Tim Cochran Award for Community Service, Missouri Lawyers Weekly with the Up & Coming Award, and induction into Ink Magazine’s 2017 30 Under 30 Inaugural Class.
During her previous stint in private practice, Melesa participated in the firm’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
