SBH tops Kansas City Business Journal’s inaugural diversity index for local law firms

Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris is proud to share that the firm ranked No. 1 in the Kansas City Business Journal’s inaugural Diversity Index Report for law firms.

According to the recently released findings, a score of more than 100 indicates that the share of attorneys at a firm in the categories of women, minorities and LGBTQ exceeded the proportion of individuals expected in the Kansas City Metro area. SBH scored 379.89 and was more than 2½ times ahead of the No. 2 firm on the list.

“Although we still have room to grow our diversity in the categories that comprise these scores, I believe that our diversity is part of our strength,” SBH member Michael Blumenthal said.

There were 83 firms that responded to the survey. The Diversity Index included a look at both total attorneys and local partners, and all six categories were compared with estimates for the general population in the metro and then equally weighted.

Since the founding of the firm, an intentional focus has been placed on diversity and the unique edge it provides to SBH’s legal practices.

Out of 13 attorneys at SBH, four are women (31%), five are minorities (38%) and four identify as LGBTQ (31 percent). There are two female partners, two minority partners and four partners who identify as LGBTQ.
