Kevin’s legal career has been devoted to the aggressive representation of companies and individuals in a wide variety of litigation practice areas. While Kevin’s practice has focused on business litigation, he also has extensive experience in the litigation of employment, insurance coverage, tort, construction, and real estate cases. He has successfully represented clients as both plaintiffs and defendants and in all phases of litigation, including extensive appellate work. Prior to joining Seyferth Blumenthal & Harris, Kevin practiced for 16 years in the Kansas City area offices of Shook, Hardy & Bacon, LLP. Kevin is licensed to practice before the state and federal courts in both Kansas and Missouri.

Representative Cases

  • In 2018, Kevin and Mike Blumenthal prevailed in an issue of first impression before the Kansas Supreme Court relating to the “full-performance exception” to the statute of frauds in a case involving the enforcement of an oral contract.  See Ed DeWitte Insurance Agency, Inc. v. Financial Associates Midwest, Inc., 308 Kan. 1065427 P.3d. 25 (Kan. 2018).
  • In January 2017, after over seven years of litigation, the SBH team of Kevin, Paul Seyferth, Mike Blumenthal, and Deena Jenab obtained a final judgment in the matter of Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City v. HCA, et al. This judgment came in a commercial contract case and is believed to be one of the largest verdicts in the Missouri Court system. After appeal, the case was ultimately resolved for an amount exceeding $200 million;
  • Successfully resolved complex claims on behalf of real estate management companies victimized by a fraudulent insurance scheme, recovering more than $1.5 million, which represented 100% of the clients’ losses;
  • Participated in successful defenses and prosecutions of multiple wrongful death and catastrophic injury claims;
  • Regularly represented large, nationally known restaurant chain in defense of employment discrimination claims in state and federal courts throughout the country
